Rascals, Raccoons, and Robots
Imagine meeting raccoon brothers who must save their beloved swamp from 17 marauding wild boars. They can't stop the boars on their own, so they call on a Bigfoot-like giant known as Sugar Man to help them. Will they wake up the Sugar Man in time to prevent the destruction?
This Summer Camp invites writers to create unique heroes that are determined to reach their goals, solve a mystery, or embark on a dangerous mission.
Through our special version of the Hero’s Journey, we'll guide students to create their own compelling stories and show examples such as Kathi Appelt's tall tale, The True Blue Scouts of Sugar Man Swamp.
We’ll provide a highly interactive, playful environment to inspire students to create their own tales of fantasy, time travel, science fiction, or anything in between. Stories in all genres are welcome.
Our course will walk through all steps of the writing process:
generating first ideas
writing new scenes
organizing
integrating details
revising for clarity and logic, and
editing towards a final draft.
Please see the description in the June 20 - 24 Summer Story Camp for Young Writers above.
Spies, Lies, and Alibis: Tween & Teen Fiction
Agents-in-training, missing treasure, counter-spies. Deceit and devious deeds are all part of the game in mystery and suspense stories. Alex Rider, Harriet the Spy, Ben Ripley, and Nefarious are just a few who venture out to solve puzzles where lives are at stake!
Join us to invent your own stories in a genre of your choice. We’ll provide a highly interactive, playful environment to inspire this creative process.
Our workshops will walk through every step:
- understanding the structure and the power of a compelling story
- generating and organizing ideas
- researching & applying details/facts
- writing with momentum
- revising for clarity and logic
- editing towards a final draft
Students will be invited to present a reading on the last day of class.
