Today was Lil Jonny's birthday, and I, private eye inspector Agent Zylo, was on the job. Yes, I was a friend of Lil Jonny, but I had also been hired to keep an eye on the presents in case anyone got “greedy hands.”

“Private eye here!” I announced to everyone standing around. Strangely, no one was listening. Instead, they were gasping. Then, all of a sudden, I saw an empty silken platter. But wait—wasn’t that the cake platter? If it was gone, that could only mean one thing: someone had stolen the cake!

“Who could have done such a thing?” I wondered. I opened a new page in my notebook and wrote, “THE CASE OF THE MISSING CAKE.”“Let’s find some suspects,” I said as I walked around the park. I saw everyone looking confused about the missing cake—everyone except Anna. I wrote her name on my suspect list.

I tried to move closer to her.   As I neared her, I overheard her say, “Let’s make a run for it while we can.”“The thief!” I shouted and sprinted after her as she ran. I followed her around the park until I tackled her.“You thief!” I said. “Give the cake back!” But all she did was smile.

Then Lil Jonny appeared and said, “Surprise!”“Wait, who stole the cake?” I asked.“All of us!” everyone shouted.“We hid the cake and decided to have some fun,” Lil Jonny explained.

“Smart,” I admitted. And that’s when I, Agent Zylo, learned an important lesson as a private eye: never narrow down your suspects too quickly—always keep your options open at first.
