Poetry: “Earth and Pollution”

Earth and Pollution

by

Tobey Liu

Protect the precious earth,

Love our unique world,

And don’t forget its great worth.

Never litter horrible, destructive trash on the ground,

Each snap of dirty garbage might lay unfurled,

Till news of a Trash Tsunami would get around.

Every day the earth changes,

Accepting the water, sand, and wind’s weathering.

Rather would we clean beyond the fountain ranges,

Than let, on the earth, garbage gathering.

Harm shouldn’t, on our planet, give birth.

Planet Earth Poetry Contest - Entry

Youth - The competition was tough in this Poetry Contest, but I could not bear to not post this wonderful piece about the importance of being aware of our environment. This message needs to be heard, especially as climate change in all its forms has become such a major issue in all of our lives.

Comments: Our judges said "the rhyming is fun" and they love how the poem gives voice to an important message about living in and with our planet earth.

The Mysteries of the Platypus

he platypus flows through time like the way it swims in the many rivers of Australia. It adapts to every problem that nature throws at it. Through convergent evolution,it evolves a bill like a duck and venom like a snake. Even though we don’t know the use of half its features it is still one of the world’s most extraordinary animals, and scientists are discovering new things about the platypus all the time. Understanding this weird creature that we call the platypus can help us better understand the world around us. Also, if we can understand the platypus it can help us figure out the evolution of other odd animals.

Cake Survival – Part II

“What does that black box do?” I asked

“Don’t know?” Amy said. “Let’s find out.”

We flew in front of it hoping to get a better look and the box flashed red making me jump. If I didn’t have Amy we would have been a splat on the floor far below, where I could see ship 4 fly forward along with our ship.

“What happened?” I asked Amy as I saw we were inside and helped approach our now visible landing site.

“There must have been a camera in that box when we flew before the door opened.”

”Oh,” I said a bit embarrassed that I almost killed us all because a camera saw us. Finally, after 1 hour, we landed.
